contours and lines
gerhard schultz
[contours]
are out of time; sonic or otherwise.
identify one contour. if it belongs in time, absorb it into memory.
recalling its image, play the contour in a new dimension of time, frequency and dynamic saturation, as long as the proportions are suitable to the perceived ensemble.
repeat at will either the contour or the process as a whole, with or without the same sense of scale.
[lines]
are in time; comparable to your own sonic palette.
establish a steady pulse while observing at least one ongoing line.
once you can predict or imagine the next note of a line other than your own, that prediction can be played at the onset of any beat within your own pulse, before the eventual note of a line being observed is played.
repeat, sustain, prolong or omit at will.
